Developing Intuition

Some of us are naturally more attuned to our intuition but everyone has the capacity to develop it. I remember the first and only time I went to see a psychic, as I walked in she looked and me at said, “what are you doing here?”, I replied with, “what do you mean, I’m here to hear what you have to say about my future”, to which she replied laughing, “you are much more psychic than I am but I’ll do my best”. Since then I decided to start exploring my intuition and testing it’s reliability. One interesting intuitive thing I discovered is our ability to pick up on what a person does with their time through visual images we can receive when around them. These don’t provide any information to help the person with but it’s amazing how much data we share with each other unknowingly, data that is encoded energetically within our auric field. I’ve had the chance to test this during 40 case study sessions so I can speak with conviction about this amazing fact.

People whom are very logically based in their thinking can also tap into their intuition, one doesn’t necessary have to be in the creative flow of the right brain to know when their intuition is speaking to them. There are many different types that we group together under the umbrella called Intuition so let me first describe some of the different types before getting into how one can become better acquainted with theirs.

Primitive Instinct –  This type of intuition is survival based. It’s a type of innate knowing that is imbedded in our being. It is an accumulation of knowledge that has been passed down to us from our ancestors. The kind of innate knowledge that has enabled us to —in the flash of a second—make decisions that have helped us survive over millennia. It’s akin to the fight or flight mechanism encoded within. Instinct precedes thought by a long shot, it allows us to feel danger before the rest of our mind perceives it. When you walk into a room filled with hidden danger or even something as simple as getting served a plate of food that will make you sick, your instinct will begin to scream, “leave, don’t do it!”. Usually this type of instinct is felt in the body almost like an allergic reaction, our body speaks to us through physical sensations, tightening of the stomach muscles or soft muscle tissue of the intestines, or simply a contracting sensation in the body. If we have disassociated ourselves from our bodily sensations it will be more difficult to detect the sometimes subtle changes.

Gut instinct – This is more elaborate and customized to our life path than the primitive instinct mentioned above. It can be felt in the gut or solar plexus, just above the naval and below the stomach. This kind of intuition is based off of our ancestral linage and the personal knowledge we have accumulated throughout our lives which we will pass down to our children. It gives us signals as to what impact the thing will specifically have on our unique selves. So for example if you personally have the tendency to make poor decisions in a specific area of your life, due to your unique ‘blind spots’ your gut instinct might pop up to warn you that you’re making a bad decision before your logical mind figures it out. You’ll feel in your body that it’s a bad decision before your logical mind can bring forth the reasons why it’s bad for you. In these cases what to do can be really apparent to those around us but not so much to ourselves but we’ll have an inner knowing or a feeling that it’s the wrong decision.

Personal Intuition Based upon our Life Path (Hunches) –  This intuition is my favourite to observe. It’s experienced on multiple layers of our being and is conspiring with the universe at all times. This type of intuition is the star lite path we experience as we move through our day-to-day. It’s the magic that happens when we move towards what feels good to us, when we are following our internal compass and listening to what brings us the most joy and happiness. It’s the inclination to act on things we feel we should do for no particular reason other than intuition. When we decide to get the ball rolling and take action on these feelings we begin to see synchronicities line up to support our efforts in that direction.

So for example our interest is peaked by a specific author, intuition telling us hummm, yes this feels like something I should look into, as we leave the house the next morning and grab a tea we might overhear the author’s name being mentioned in a conversation at the table beside the cash, then as the week moves on we might have a friend call us and tell us she is reading a book by that exact author. This initial intuition that we had about following up on something will begin to be backed by the universe in more than a few ways to help reinforce it’s importance on our path. This is when our soul is speaking directly to us and we really need to—all logic aside—go get the darn book or take that class at the local gym or start incorporating a certain food in our diet or make a call to that person we’ve been thinking about because intuition at this level is pointing us directly to something that will enhance our lives in one way or another.

Premonitions – This type of intuition is very creepy haha, I’ve experienced this many times and although premonitions don’t necessarily have to be ‘bad’ I believe that most of them usually have a predominating negative component. This type of intuition is less experienced on a visceral level and more experienced on visual and or ‘knowing’ level for me. Often they arise in visions during dreams or waking hours with a strong ‘knowing’ that something very specific is going to happen. It’s a flash that jumps into awareness out of seemingly nowhere and tends to feel a matter of factly, or like it has already happened, sort of like a real memory. When it arrives in dreams it has the same presence, it differs from other dreams and simply stamps itself with a symbolic or literal—this is fact and is going to happen. People might tend to ignore these, brushing them off in the instant, especially if they arrive symbolically, not necessarily taking the time to record what came through. Usually afterwards when the event does in fact occur, they say, “oh, that is so strange, I just knew that was going to happen” or they might later remember the vision or dream they had that confirmed it. Premonitions can help prepare ourselves and our loved ones for events that will occur but only if we have the courage to act upon them. If we haven’t tested or played around with our intuition on this level we might not take it seriously and miss out on opportunities to prepare or even possibly reduce the impact of something about to happen.

Intuition Based on Potentials and Timelines – Here we have the cliched psychic reading style intuition. Divination through the use of physical tools can be used such as tarot cards, palm reading, gem stones, ruins, or any physical item which carries the person’s everyday energy, or for self through visual meditation. All of these can give us opportunities to intuitively see into future potentials and timelines that are currently aligned with our present path.

What we are essentially doing when we tap into such intuition is using the universal law of mirroring which is a feed back loop based on the law of attraction which reflects back to us potential outcomes or upcoming events based on where we find our current vibration to be, or where we currently find ourselves or others along their path. When we use this type of intuition we are not really doing much other than reading the signs that are presented to us either through divination tools or clairvoyance and interpreting them based off of our ability to read them and elaborate on them. The more details we can decipher from the cards, stones or visions eg. the more information we can give a person about their future potentials and timelines.

These readings almost never provide a fixed outcome but rather an outcome based on the continuation of following down the current path they find themselves on. As soon as we change our thinking or feelings about our current situation we are immediately changing the possible outcomes. This is why these readings have to be taken with a grain of salt. They should be used as tools to better understand ourselves and our current feelings and thoughts more than anything else. We have freewill within a specific frame called destiny. I believe there are fixed milestones on our path, such as can be seen in our birth chart for example that we may be able to pick up on intuitively as well. Things we are simply destined to experience as life lessons, including karmic ties and samskaras but we always have the choice as to how we wish to respond to these and what we wish to create moving forward.

Telepathic Intuition – As we begin to understand how interconnected we are, we begin to feel those around us to a greater degree. We will often think of someone and shortly after receive a call from them or we call someone only to find out they were thinking about us. Most of us have experienced this type of intuition but we often don’t act on it. A good way of determining if you are telepathically communicating with someone is by determining how the person enters your awareness. If your train of thought brings you in a step-by-step fashion towards thinking of someone then you are mostly likely simply thinking of them. We can know we are intuitively picking up on someone thinking of us when we are deep in our daily tasks and out of left field a person’s name or face will pop into our awareness. When this happens I dare you to test your intuition and give them a call, you will see as you test this how accurate your intuition is and how interconnected we all are. This is also why it is so important that we send each other thoughts of wellbeing. After having tested this I realized how one person’s wellbeing affects the whole because essentially we are all connected and either helping each other rise or pushing each other down energetically through thoughts shared.

There are so many other types of intuition that we can experience but the above is a good base to start playing with. Mugwort tea will help you remember dreams and connect with intuitive hits you can receive in the dream realm. One of the tips I give to clients looking to connect with their intuition more is allowing for a greater connection to their bodily sensations and to never ignore the first thought that comes to mind. So for example if you are interested in knowing what your intuition has to say about a specific topic you can close your eyes, ask the question to yourself and notice if your body moves into a contracted state (No answer) or an expanded and relaxed state (Yes answer). Another way if you are very visual is to visualize the words yes and no in your mind then clear the canvas, centre yourself and ask the question you’d like an answer to, notice which word pops up in your mind first. It’s always the first answer but usually our logical mind takes over and will question the first answer that came in and basically rip it apart until we are unsure again. Our intuition can often be counterintuitive to reason or logic so we have to be aware that it might not seem right when it first comes in but that if followed on, time will unravel its truth and hidden reasons. Our intuition will often give us answers that go against the grain of our habits or conditioned thinking so building up intuitive trust through testing and experience is key.

We wish to connect with our intuition because it’s a tool that provides clarity and answers to things we can’t access through logical thinking. It’s the language by which our souls speak to us!

One love,

J
